POONCH: During the last fifteen years, Poonch witnessed nature’s fury four times. First, October 2005 earthquake, then February 2012 snow storm, September 2014 flood and now 2020 Corona virus and during all these unfortunate incidents, tainted officers of Poonch administration belonging to different departments looted government money in several crores. During 2005 earthquake, Poonch Municipality, RDD and PWD murdered funds in several hundred crores. During 2012 snow storm, PDD and PWD remained the major corrupt players and fake bills in several crores were withdrawn from Poonch district alone. However, during September 2014 floods, PWD, PHE, RDD and Irrigation & Flood Control Department scripted many multi crore frauds with the involvement of a Deputy Commissioner, who also got massive share. Unfortunately, the same practice of earning money during natural disaster is still going on with Health and RDD officials are involved in withdrawal of fake bills on Corona related works. In the last issue, “POONCH TODAY” published  how CMO, BMOs and Medical Superintendent of Raja Sukh Dev Singh Hospital Poonch, misused their official position and indulged in many fake withdrawal of bills  and the same practice reportedly still going on in Health department. However, Rural Development Department is not behind and in a shocking disclosure, a top officer of RDD Poonch, demanded Rs 30,000 from a businessman who made face masks and submitted a bill of Rs 2 lacs with the RDD office.  When the businessman approached the office, a top official posted in one of the BDO offices in Poonch, demanded Rs 50,000 as commission, but after repeated requests from the said businessman, the deal was finalized at Rs 30,000 as commission for the release of final payment. There are similar reports of many frauds going on in various BDOs and other offices related to Corona works. Highly placed sources in administration told “POONCH TODAY” that many tainted officers have used such opportunities in the past and the same thing is still going on in various departments on Corona issue. There are similar reports of massive Corona related scam in Rajouri’s administration also and those powerful officers, who are expert in scripting various frauds, are doing the same. Few other departments are also doing the similar frauds. Even some high profile intelligence agencies have submitted this report to government regarding misuse of Corona related funds in Poonch and Rajouri. Locals have appealed to government to conduct an audit of funds used during COVID-19 crisis to bring to book those officials, who are facing allegations of misusing their official positions and indulge in corrupt practices, even during Corona issue in twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
