Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu Flags off Seed on Wheels

JAMMU: Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu, Prof J.P Sharma today visited various farms of the university at Chatha and took stock of various development activities.
Prof. Sharma suggested to focus on Participatory Seed Production Mode involving farmers’ and multi-disciplinary team of scientists of SKUAST-Jammu along with KVK’s. He urged that the wasteland should be brought under the cultivation of crops by doing necessary levelling of land. During his visit to Organic Farming Research Centre (OFRC), Prof Sharma advised scientists to formulate a long term plan for development of Organic farming. Dr. N.P. Thakur, Chief Scientist & Head, Farming System Research Centre explained various activities of Integrated Farming System to the Vice Chancellor. Prof. Sharma also visited Mushroom Production Unit, Fish Ponds, Sericulture, Poly House of Fruit Science, Experimental Plots of Agronomy and Plant Breeding & Genetics expressed his satisfaction over the performance of all the farm activities. Prof. Sharma advised scientists that economic analysis of various cropping systems of the farm should be calculated and disseminated among the farmers for their knowledge and benefit. Prof. Sharma also visited vegetable nursery and field trials of entomology and Agricultural Engineering.

Singh; Dr. Narinder Panotra; Dr. Vishal Raina; Dr. Sehar Masood; Dr. Akhil Gupta; Dr. Kamlesh Bali; Dr. Satish Sharma; Dr. Balbir Dhotra; Dr. J.S. Manhas and Dr. Anil Bhat were also present.
