Credibility of the Poonch administration has reached a frightening low due to reports of intensifying dishonesty

POONCH: The rising level of dishonesty in district administration has become a most debatable topic in every nook and corner of Poonch district, as people are seen openly criticising the administration for brazen violations of rules in many cases. It is pertinent to mention here that the double standard of district administration was exposed time and again, first on the issue of not taking action against illegal constructions in flood zones, retrieval of state/Kahcharai/forest lands, and a host of other similar issues, and now on the issue of allegedly full hand-in-glove support to stone crushers that have been operating at different places, some even on state lands. Many illegal crushers being run by influential people were never taken to task by the administration, but those with no backup were harassed time and again. A large number of crushers in the entire district continue to operate without fully complying with the regulations. People from various sections of society approached the administration on numerous occasions with a demand to discourage such activities that would have an impact on the environment, flora, and fauna, but who cares in the administration when the main goal of tainted officers in administration is to grind their own axe by any means? An insider in the DC office, told “POONCH TODAY” pleading anonymity, that few officers are working on the formula of “Give money, get work done, legal or illegal.” It is pertinent to mention here that many illegal crushers operating from different places in the district, especially near rivers, have played a big role in demolishing water bodies, flora, and fauna, and have become a big threat for the environment, but these crushers belong to influential people, which is why the administration has been least bothered to take action. There is an open violation of rules going on in administration, and due to the attitude of district administration, the credibility of administration has reached a frighteningly low level. Even the common man is aware that the main goal of a few district administration officers is to adopt dishonest means. Those crushers and other business owners who grease the palm of a tainted officer get favourable reports from the revenue department and other departments on the direction of their bosses, and those who fail to do that, get negative reports. A few revenue officials, including one posted in Surankote, reportedly collected favours on behalf of the administration in exchange for approving all such illegal acts. There is a huge hue and cry going on against the administration. The administration has never taken action against illegal constructions in the “Flood Zone,” in addition to many cases of encroachment on state, Kahcharai, and forest lands. Locals have demanded the immediate shifting of tainted officers of the Poonch administration and want an honest and visionary officer having the capability to discourage all such illegal acts that have taken place in the district due to the hand in glove culture of a few tainted officers of the Poonch administration with the wrongdoers.
