Poonch campus of Jammu University should be named after former interim PM Gulzari Lal Nanda: People Forum
POONCH TODAY NEWS
POONCH: President of the People Forum, Advocate Sanjay Raina, has demanded that the Poonch campus of the Jammu University be named after an eminent person from Poonch, Gulzari Lal Nanda, who rose to the position of interim Prime Minister of India.
While expressing his views with “POONCH TODAY,” Adv. Sanjay Raina, said, “I strongly appeal to the government of J&K and the government of India that the Poonch campus of Jammu University should be declared as the Gulzari Lal Nanda campus. Nanda sahib, once a native of Poonch, held important positions at union government level and worked for every section of society.” It is important to mention here that Gulzari Lal Nanda was not a government employee, but a tallest public figure as many civil services rules don’t allow the government to name anything in favour of any government employee(In-service or a retiree) whose contribution to the society remained in high terms in various public areas, but a few government employees, especially from the belt force, who sacrificed their lives for the nation while fighting against the militancy, were honoured by the government at various places by naming of education institutions on their names. It is unfortunate that the government has ignored the nearly decades-long political and social legacy of the late Gulzari Lal Nanda, who rose to the highest position in the country as interim PM. Earlier, many people from different sections of society brought to the attention of the J&K government the idea of naming the Poonch campus of Jammu University after Gulzari Lal Nanda. While speaking with “POONCH TODAY,” prominent people from Poonch and Rajouri districts said that Jammu University is the leading educational institution of the J&K UT and has served every section of the society, so the name of the Poonch campus should be in honour of those eminent people who worked for every section of the society, and according to merit, the late interim prime minister and son of the soil Gulzari Lal Nanda is the most appropriate and a deserving choice. Various members of civil society expressed their views further, requesting that LG Manoj Sinha and J&K BJP President Ravinder Raina inform the government at the centre to declare the Poonch campus of JU in the name of Gulzari Lal Nanda, as it would enable people from all sections of society to work for all in the national interest. “With this gesture of the government, if implemented on the ground, future generations will be able to learn a lot about Nanda sahib and his contributions to society and the nation, as the Poonch campus should be named after him,” said Advocate Sanjay Raina.
