POONCH/RAJOURI/JAMMU: There was a time when the BJP was known as a reliable political party in India known for strict discipline.
During the era of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and former Home Minister Lal Krishna Advani, there was complete discipline in the party at the state and district level. Since the emergence of the Modi-Shah era, strong nationalism has taken the front seat, in addition to discipline among the party workers. Even in J&K, a number of big BJP leaders like Ravinder Raina, Ashok Koul, Kavinder Gupta, Dr. Nirmal Singh, Vibodh Gupta, Pardeep Sharma, Sunil Sharma, and a few others have done a lot to ensure expansion and discipline in the party at the grass-roots level, but reportedly, some other BJP leaders of Jammu division have given a big blow to the concept of discipline among some self-styled leaders and those indirectly associated with the party. Shockingly, some of them, with doubtful credentials, were also given police security without any logic, and it raises a big question mark on J&K police. With the backing and full support of some leaders of the BJP with questionable credentials, a few such self-styled leaders are seen visiting various departments of some districts and used to niggle civil and police officers for their petty interests. They, with the backing of some BJP leaders, were also seen with big dignitaries, and it shows how the security of prominent dignitaries was compromised many times. Has the BJP forgotten the Rajouri incident, where an alleged party worker was later found out to be a terrorist? In a few districts of Jammu division, some Deputy Commissioners and SSPs were also seen giving up before these self-styled leaders and others, backed by some BJP leaders, and it’s a really unfortunate act on the part of those DCs and SSPs who feared imaginary threats to their postings. A few weeks ago, a whistleblower approached the J&K police with an RTI regarding the list of people who were given security and the reason thereof. Sensing trouble, the police authorities did not give him complete details, saying that such a detail could not be made public due to security reasons. Many people with doubtful integrity and even some low-ranking leaders and employees having links with the BJP were given security in some areas of Jammu division, and it raises a big question mark on the J&K police. It’s a million-dollar question: who is protecting such self-styled leaders associated with some BJP leaders, who have taken everything for granted? Some of these self-styled leaders who were earlier involved in brazenly wrong acts are also seen projecting themselves as BJP candidates for the future. There is a big question mark on those SSPs of Jammu Division who have given security to such forces on an unknown basis, and it shows that for J&K police, rules stand nowhere, but pleasing such self styled leaders, for reasons best known to top officers, has become a part of their official duties. A retired officer from a civil department, pleading anonymity, said, “BJP is considered a disciplined and a nationalist character party, but these days, every Tom, Dick, and Harry with doubtful credentials has become a BJP leader, and a few of them used to niggle civil and police officers by poking their noses into every administrative affair, even without knowing the iota of any subject.” A prominent educationist said, “People with doubtful credentials who have business and other personal interests have joined the BJP, and they will never vote for the BJP. Those who were involved in various unlawful acts have now joined the BJP to protect their misdeeds, and as per my information, some big names with questionable credentials shall also join the BJP in the near future.” The BJP is protecting such people with doubtful integrity, and the day is not far away when the credibility of the BJP will come down in the eyes of the common man of J&K. Although the BJP is a nationalist and disciplined party, the emergence of such self-styled leaders backed by some BJP leaders, who in turn poke their noses into civil and police matters by projecting themselves as BJP leaders, is a cause of big concern for the saffron brigade at the top level. J&K BJP has a number of big leaders who have done a lot for the party by following the strict discipline from top to bottom level, but the emergence of new self-styled leaders, reportedly with the backing of some BJP leaders with wrong antecedents, is spoiling the reputation of the party in the eyes of officers and the common man, which is really a cause of big concern for the party. A few of such self-styled leaders with an intention to niggle officers for their petty interests were also seen saying,” Hamare upar tak strong links hai, union ministers se bhi link hai, isliye hamara kaam priority pe kara karo, warna ham transfer karwa denge.” They behave like ministers. The situation is so terrible that the government authorities are looking helpless in taking action against such self-styled leaders, and it shows that “Sab Golmaal hai” within the administrative setup. A few days ago, J&K witnessed the episode of conman Kiren Bhat Patel, who hoodwinked everyone in the security setup before finding himself trapped by the security agencies. Such incidents show that there are many Kiren Bhai Patel’s reportedly having links with some BJP leaders, who are openly niggling government officers. But the question is: despite knowing the bad credentials of such entities, why are the top officials of the J&K police and civil administration of various districts not showing such conmen their true place? It is high time that J&K UT president Ravinder Raina, who has transformed the BJP in J&K with his political rhetoric and strong dedication, intervene in the issue by taking action against those self-styled leaders and others who are misusing the name of the party in niggling police and civil officers by projecting themselves as BJP leaders, because it’s a question of the party’s integrity in the eyes of a common man, as only people will vote for the BJP and not these visible conmen.
