POONCH/RAJOURI: Wisdom, character, and professionalism don’t come only by occupying top posts after qualifying for prestigious exams; they’re a result of the collective efforts of a professional zeal, inborn competence, overall education, a clean inner state of mind, and having the ability to see things from a broader state of mind and not from an arrogant approach.

It is said that personality, character, and integrity grace the chair, but the reverse is not true. Unfortunately, it is seen that many officers, after occupying important posts, give preference to their arrogance, which results in an inappropriate message for the subordinates in general and society in particular. However, one border district was in the news, and this was because of a discord between police and civil administration, and the reason was the journalism of “POONCH TODAY.” It’s a hard-core fact that influencing the “POONCH TODAY” newspaper by any means remained next to impossible for everybody because the newspaper always projected the truth without favoring or disfavoring anybody in the national interest. During the last few months, “POONCH TODAY” carried out stories about the weak state of affairs of the civil administration in one of the border districts of Jammu division based on clear-cut facts. Even stories about the police were carried out, showing weakness in some areas, but without applying wisdom and investigating the facts through its agencies, the head of the civil administration of the district, through its close people, leveled serious allegations that the police were planting stories against the former, which was far from the truth. In many official meetings of the administration, including Republic Day meetings, good bonds between the top officers from both institutions were mostly absent. Even the chemistry between the police and the civil administration was seen as weak on most occasions. The body and eye gestures of both the top officers many times indicated that the relationship between them was not well. Even during the Republic Day function, the body gestures, eye gestures, and face gestures and their seating arrangements were enough to confirm the fact that both heads were not having high-quality relations because of differences of opinion. Highly placed sources within the administration told “POONCH TODAY” that some people briefed the civil administration in the wrong way and that police had planted news items against the civil administration through the “POONCH TODAY” newspaper, which was totally baseless as the history of this newspaper is in front of all. The way the civil administration head was seen behaving with the police through cold gestures established the fact that he, without investigating the facts on the ground, believed that the police head was the man behind news items against the civil administration, and this misunderstanding led to the discord between two top officers in a border district. Reports available with PT say that the civil administration played a secret role against the police and got success in that to some extent. It’s a surprising fact that rather than putting their houses in order in the public interest, news items published in “POONCH TODAY” became the unnecessary reason for discord between the top officers. It seems that the agencies and well-known touts of the civil administration have no knowledge about the journalism field, and that could be the reason that the civil administration seems to be lacking exact knowledge about the things on the ground. “POONCH TODAY” always remained at the forefront of publishing the truth in the national interest, and many attempts were made from different quarters to influence this newspaper, but all attempts proved futile as the history of this newspaper shows that influencing “POONCH TODAY” is next to impossible. Earlier, when news items about a senior police officer were published, his juniors, without verifying the facts, started hating and attacking “POONCH TODAY.” A similar approach was also seen from civil officers when news items were published against the head of the civil administration. Rather than running like sheep and goats, important junior and senior officers, by shedding their unwanted arrogance, need to apply their minds before coming to a conclusion on any issue related to news items. The head of police and civil administration needed to apply wisdom rather than accept the version of bench sitters and multi-faced people who used to brief the civil administration for settling their scores. Intelligent officers always apply wisdom rather than adopting arrogance, but that thing was missing in the said district. In this hollow tussle, civil administration ultimately got what it wanted. It’s the duty of the top officers to work for the public, both from a development and security point of view; otherwise, things, once they go on the wrong track, prove bad for the better coordination between administration and the public.
