POONCH:  Thousands of Shia mourners Wednesday participated in processions taken out across Poonch district to observe Youm-e-Ashura to mark the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions in Karbala. The mourners observed the day with great solemnity as main processions were taken out in Poonch town, Surankote, Mendhar, and Mandi areas.  Thousands of mourners took part in these processions amid tight security arrangements.


Mourners, mostly in black dress, joined the Ashura processions on the tenth day of Muharram month of Islamic calendar. Beating their chests and reciting ‘Marcia’, the mourners were heading towards Imambara. Adequate security arrangements had been put in place by Poonch police by deploying police personnel. Besides, paramedical staff was also deployed. Officers from police and civil administration were also present on the occasion.
