JAMMU:  Prominent political leader Vivek Bali has voiced strong support for the residents of Katra and the protesting groups opposing the proposed ropeway project for the revered Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. In a firm statement, Bali expressed solidarity with the agitating residents and local stakeholders, emphasizing the need to respect their sentiments and address their concerns comprehensively. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board’s decision to construct the ropeway has sparked widespread opposition among Katra residents, who believe the project may adversely affect their livelihoods and the spiritual essence of the pilgrimage. Highlighting these concerns, Bali called upon the authorities to reconsider the decision and engage in meaningful dialogue with the affected communities to find an amicable solution. Bali further demanded the immediate withdrawal of the FIRs registered against two protestors, stating that such actions only escalate tensions and suppress the voices of the people. “The residents of Katra have a right to express their concerns peacefully. Criminalizing their protests is unacceptable and undemocratic,” he said. While the proposed ropeway aims to improve accessibility to the shrine, Bali stressed the importance of safeguarding the local culture, economy, and the sanctity of the pilgrimage experience. He urged the Shrine Board and the government to prioritize inclusive development that benefits all stakeholders. Vivek Bali reiterated his commitment to standing with the people of Katra and working towards a resolution that respects their rights and preserves the spiritual legacy of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi.
