Overstayed police official has full control over monetary matters in the working of a police station
POONCH TODAY NEWS
POONCH: Although J&K police have written a great history as far as showing strong professionalism in countering various anti-national designs is concerned, on the other hand, there are a few officials who have brought down the credibility of the police with their involvement in dishonest activities while handling various issues by occupying important chairs in various police stations.
In one of the police stations in the border area of the Jammu region, especially known for bovine smuggling and drug trafficking activities under its jurisdiction, a low-ranked police official who has already overstayed, nearly four years in this important post in a police station, has become so expert in minting money that he has gained almost full control over the workings of the police station. Even successive SDPOs and SHOs who remained posted there were seen giving full backing to the said official. The reason, they were also adjusted by the same official in question on all issues. This police station remained in the news for years due to bovine smuggling activities and drug trafficking. Even a few police officers earlier, used to fight for full control over this police station because this police station/area remained a well-known source of income for a few tainted police officials. However, concerned police officials used to arrest a small percentage of bovine smugglers and drug peddlers just for media attention, but the rest are openly allowed to work secretly. Reports of this low-ranked police official have already reached the top police brass, but no action has been taken up to the time of filing this report against the erring police official. One more issue which has affected the reputation of a few police stations/posts in this border region of Jammu zone is that various low-ranked police officials are very close to some SHOs/I/C PPs and they used to play their role in major decisions related to various cases, eyeing monetary favours, and this led to the building of a negative impression in the minds of the people towards police stations. The most burning challenge in the region is drug trafficking, but till now, police have not launched a massive crackdown on drug mafia and bovine smugglers because there were reports of a few police officials indulging in hand in glove activity by ensuring the release of the culprits. A high-level inquiry is needed from the top brass of the police to win public confidence in policing by identifying those low-ranked police officials who used to call the shots by misusing their official positions.
