SDH Surankote suffering from administrative apathy, tainted officials looting funds; CMO Poonch in slumber

POONCH: On one hand, the J&K UT government claims efficient health infrastructure everywhere, but on the ground level, things are different, and this is evident from the horrible state of affairs in SDH Surankote. A few tainted officials have full control over the affairs of the hospital. On paper, everything is ok, but on the ground, there is a big financial fraud lying under various schemes. Funds under various health schemes are not being utilised properly. There is no regular BMO right now as some other officer is looking after the charge of BMO Surankote. The internal condition of the hospital is very bad as patients who are coming from different areas of Surankote suffer huge inconvenience. Despite having full information about brazen corrupt activities that are going on in the hospital, CMO Poonch has maintained a questionable silence. Moreover, SDM Surankote has also not taken to task those health officials who are running a nexus in the hospital, and it is questionable. In the absence of a regular BMO, the hospital has become a money-making machine for a few crooked officials. Even a former BMO was allegedly accused of scripting huge financial frauds during his stay as BMO Surankote. Even in various schemes of NHM, there is a huge blunder as the concerned staff members feel hesitation in providing records to their senior officials, sensing trouble. Patients are preferring private hospitals. Even a few doctors posted in the hospital prefer private practise and often  force patients to go to a nearby private hospital. Those, who are running the private hospital, have created a big nexus in the health department in Poonch eyeing huge monetary benefits.  Various health-related schemes launched by the government are not reaching the  deserving beneficiaries due to the presence of a big nexus in which a few health officials are involved. Important positions in the SDH are being maintained by those with questionable credentials. It’s shocking that CMO Ponch has failed to ensure better health care facilities in the hospital. She has also failed to take action against those who are reportedly involved in misusing funds from different schemes. A high-level inquiry is needed from the government on the misuse of funds under different schemes and on the horrible state of affairs in SDH Surankote.
