RAJOURI: The poor state of affairs in the directorate of urban local bodies shows that corruption and other illegal practices are routine exercises, and the officials from top to bottom are neck-deep involved in multiple scams that were scripted in the said department.

The famous Thanamandi Municipality backdoor scam that remained in the news in which some Executive Officers gave undue benefits to their close relatives on the posts meant for Safai Safaikaramcharis and some of them were later promoted to Junior Assistants, no concrete action has yet been taken against the erring Executive Officers by the government. Shockingly, one of those who remained part and parcel of various scams in the said municipality has been given plum postings in Poonch district with an additional charge of Surankote Municipality. The concerned officers, along with their close subordinates, never spare an opportunity to earn money through foul play. In purchasing various items, there is a big financial scam. Sources in the department told “POONCH TODAY,” pleading anonymity, that tainted officials misused GEM, and through GEM purchasing, many foul plays were executed. The said officer is also involved in giving undue benefits to some people in various tenders in lieu of hefty favors. There are authentic reports that some executive officers in all the municipalities of the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch were involved in massive financial scams, and those are in Thanamandi Municipality, Rajouri Municipality, Nowshera Municipality, Surankote, and Poonch Municipality.  Those executive officers who even made forged stamps and forged letter heads of the Director Office scripted out of the way appointments of their close relatives in the Thanamandi Municipality were never taken to task by the government. The matter was also authenticated by the district administration in Rajouri, and the same report was sent to the Commissioner/Secretary ULB. Shockingly, after much time, no inquiry has been initiated, and those who were adjusted through backdoors were not shown the door by the government. Massive fraud was committed in the Thanamandi Municipality in financial matters. Sources in the department said that those officers who were involved in backdoor appointments and other financial frauds in Thanamandi now have been doing the same task in the Poonch and Surankote Municipalities. The said executive officer has only one agenda, and that is to hit the places of financial gain. Many illegal constructions were given a green signal at various places. A passenger shed in the bus stand was converted into shops, and it shows the poor vision of officials of Poonch municipality. Massive fraud is reported in the auctioning of shops, as some shops were indirectly given to those who remained in power and other self-styled social workers. Some parties even failed to deposit the entire amount of money. After the Thanamandi municipality backdoor appointment scam and financial scam, tainted officials have now made Poonch and Surankote Municipalities their targets, and they reportedly are doing the same with the main agenda of earning money by all means. Despite having full knowledge of maximum backdoor appointments and financial frauds in Rajouri and Poonch districts, the silence of Director Urban Local Bodies and Commissioner/Secretary ULB is questionable. Will the government take this matter to a logical conclusion?
