POONCH TODAY NEWS

POONCH: Rains in Poonch district wreaked havoc; as a result, four people lost their lives, two of them were hit by a boulder on the Madana road on the Poonch-Surankote national highway.

A vehicle slipped and was trapped in the Kalai River due to heavy rains and strong flow of water.  After getting the reports, Poonch police immediately swung into action, and the team, led from the front by SSP Poonch Shafqat Hussain and ASP Mohan Sharma, reached the spot and started the rescue operation amid heavy rains. Both the officers jumped into the Kalai River, and in an hour-long operation, all the seven persons who were trapped in the Kalai River were rescued due to the hectic efforts of police. Dy.SP HQRS Neeraj Sharma and SHO Poonch Rashid Choudhary were also present on the occasion and were also involved in the rescue operation. Due to the timely and adventurous efforts of the Poonch police, all the people who were rescued later thanked the police and the civil administration for their timely help. All the people were shifted to the Raja Sukhdev Singh Hospital in Poonch, where they were provided medical assistance. DC Poonch Vikas Kundal also rushed to the hospital and took stock of the facilities being provided to the patients. However, there is a big question mark on traffic police officials as to why they failed to stop the traffic on the Surankote-Kalai stretch of the highway when there was a strong indication of land sliding. It’s a big failure of the traffic police that resulted in the death of two people due to hitting a boulder with the car. Meanwhile, Poonch police officials have advised the people not to travel during heavy rains, and in case of any emergency, people can contact police in hours of crisis. People of Poonch have appreciated the efforts of SSP Poonch, ASP Poonch, and the entire team of Poonch police for saving seven precious lives during hours of emergency amid heavy rains.
